  • Microsoft Internet Assistant for Word, versions 1.0, 1.0z, 2.0z
  • Microsoft Word for Windows 95, versions 7.0, 7.0a
  • Microsoft Word for Windows, versions 6.0a, 6.0c
  • Microsoft Word for Windows NT, version 6.0

SYMPTOMS

Paragraphs that are formatted with Heading Numbering are converted to a multi-level ordered list when your document is converted to HTML. In addition, other formatting characteristics such as centering, bold, italics, and font size are removed.

CAUSE

HTML level 2 does not support heading numbering, font size information, or centering.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Internet Assistant for Word, versions 1.0, 1.0z and 2.0z. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

RESOLUTION

To preserve numbering and formatting--bold, italics, or underline--use the List Number,OL style instead of Heading Numbering, and directly apply the formatting you want.
