WordPerfect Conversions Kit Setup Not Completed Successfully

Microsoft Word for Windows, versions 6.0, 6.0a, 6.0c

SYMPTOMS

When you try to install the Microsoft Supplemental WordPerfect Conversions Kit and you choose Complete or Custom, you may receive the following error:

Supplemental Converter Kit Setup was not completed successfully.

This error occurs when you run the Setup program for the Supplemental WordPerfect Conversions Kit from within the Word program directory.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

WORKAROUND

To install the Supplemental WordPerfect Conversions Kit successfully, do the following:

In Windows File Manager, create a new directory, for example, C:\WPKIT.

Download or copy the WPCNV.EXE into the C:\WPKIT directory.

Double-click the WPCNV.EXE file to extract the setup files.

On the Window menu, click Refresh.

Double-click SETUP.EXE to run the Conversion Kit Setup.

If the destination location of the Word Perfect converter files is not on the local drive, such as:

F:\APPS\USERS\ or \\APPS\USERS\

an error will occur.

To prevent this error, select the Change Directory option button when prompted to choose a Complete or Custom installation and set it to the local user directory for Word, such as:

C:\MSOFFICE\WINWORD\ or C:\WINWORD\.
