"Can't Find SDM32.DLL" When Starting NTWord on Windows 95

SYMPTOMS

When you run Word for Windows NT, version 6.0, you may receive the following error message:

Can't Find SDM32.DLL


CAUSE

This error message occurs if the you install Word for Windows, version 6.0, (also known as 16-bit Word) on a computer that already has Word for Windows NT, version 6.0, (also known as 32-bit Word) installed.


RESOLUTION

The preferred resolution is to leave the 32-bit version installed and to uninstall the 16-bit version. If this resolution is unacceptable, uninstall the 32-bit version, and then install the 16-bit version.

Sdm32.dll, which stands for Standard Dialog Manager, ships with Word for Windows NT and Excel for Windows NT. Word and Excel install two versions of this file:
