SUMMARY

This article details the steps required to fax a document from Microsoft Word for Windows or Word for Windows 95 using the Send command from the File menu when running Windows 95 and Microsoft Exchange.

MORE INFORMATION

Once you have created the document that you want to fax, follow the steps below:

  1. On the File menu, click Send.

If Send is not available on the File menu, you must install Microsoft Exchange using Windows 95 Setup. See "To Install Microsoft Exchange" later in this article.

  2. In the Select Profile dialog box, select "MS Exchange Settings" as the Profile name and click OK.

  3. In the New Message dialog box, the Word document will appear as an attachment and the insertion point should be blinking in the "To:" line.

  4. There are two methods to address the message from the New Message window:

Method 1: If you already have the person's phone number in your Personal Address Book, click the "To:" button and select the correct person.

Method 2: If you want to fax the document without creating an entry in your Personal Address Book, use the following format to enter the fax number on the "To:" line
    [FAX:NUMBER]
where NUMBER is the number required to dial the addressee manually. For example:

  5. [FAX:912065551212]
  6. On the File menu, click Send.

At this point, Exchange will send the fax using the information specified.

To Install Microsoft Exchange

  1. Click the Windows Start button, point to Settings, and click Control Panel.

  2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.

  3. Click the Windows Setup tab.

  4. Under Components, highlight Microsoft Exchange and then click Details.

  5. In the Microsoft Exchange dialog box, be sure that both check boxes under Components contain a check mark and then click OK.

  6. Click OK.

At this point, the Windows 95 Setup program will install the Microsoft Exchange program. You may be prompted to insert the appropriate Windows 95 disks.
