SYMPTOMSWord may hang (stop responding) either when you insert a link to a foreign object (any file that is not a Word document) or when you double-click a linked object to edit it. This problem occurs when the linked object is located on an NT server. CAUSEThe object packager hangs and does not return focus to Word when it cannot activate the object. STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Word version 7.0 for Windows 95. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available. WORKAROUND
After your system hangs, press CTRL+ALT+DEL to bring up the Task List,
select Packager, and then click the End Task button. Switch to Word, save
and close your document, and then exit and restart Word.
