IA: Startup Folder Removed When You Uninstall Internet Assistant

ID: Q143216

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Internet Assistant for Word, version 2.0z
  • Microsoft Word for Windows 95, version 7.0
  • Microsoft Word for Windows NT, version 6.0

SYMPTOMS

The Internet Assistant Setup program removes the Startup folder (directory). This folder is located in your Winword folder.

The drawback to this behavior is that some Setup programs, including Internet Assistant, look for the Startup folder. When the folder cannot be found, the Setup program may stop, or it may install files to an incorrect folder (which will result in lost program functionality).

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, create a new Startup folder using Windows Explorer or Windows File Manager.

For information about how to create a folder in Windows 95, see Windows 95 online Help.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in early beta releases of Microsoft Internet Assistant for Word, version 2.0z. This problem has been corrected in the released version of Internet Assistant.
