IA: "Copy of" Prefix Added to Page After You View Source

ID: Q145626

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Internet Assistant for Word, version 2.0z
  • Microsoft Word for Windows 95, version 7.0
  • Microsoft Word for Windows NT, version 6.0

SYMPTOMS

When you view the HTML source of an open URL (for example www.test.com/index.htm), and you then edit the HTML markup, Internet Assistant creates a copy that it calls "Copy of <URL>" (for example "Copy of www.test.com/index.htm"). When you return to edit mode and then repeat this process, Internet Assistant adds the prefix "Copy of" (without the quotation marks) to the current file name, so that your page is named

Copy of Copy of www.test.com/index.htm.
Internet Assistant will continue to append the "Copy of" prefix each time you view and edit the HTML source, return to edit mode, and again view and edit the HTML source. Each copy of the original will represent different versions of your page.

This file name will appear in the title bar of the open document, the recently used file list, and on the Window menu when the document is open. In addition, this behavior will create multiple temporary files in the Windows\Temp folder.
