IA: Resized Pre Element Reverts to Original Width

ID: Q145629

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Internet Assistant for Word, version 2.0z
  • Microsoft Word for Windows 95, version 7.0
  • Microsoft Word for Windows NT, version 6.0

SYMPTOMS

When you display your document in Page Layout view, text formatted in the <pre> style extends past the right side of the page.

If you size the frame to fit within the margins of the page, the frame size reverts to its original size when you save the HTML file.

CAUSE

By design, the preformatted style inserts a frame around your text. Because the style is saved as the pre element, this format is applied when you save the document. Therefore, any size changes you make to the frame are removed.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, insert a hard carriage return in your text to control were your line breaks inside the <Pre> element.
