IA: MENU Nested Inside OL, UL Doesn't Import, Export Correctly

The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

When you import the following HTML markup into Internet Assistant,


   <ol>
   <li><MENU>
   <LI>This is menu item 1.
   <LI>This is menu item 2.
   </MENU>
   </ol>

Your results look like this:


   - This is menu item 1.
   - This is menu item 2.

Your browser displays this code as:


   1.
      This is menu item 1.
      This is menu item 2.

When you save your document as HTML, Internet Assistant removes the OL element (or moves the OL element below the MENU element), so your HTML markup looks like this:


   <MENU>
   <LI>This is menu item 1.
   <LI>This is menu item 2.
   </MENU>

or like this:


   <MENU>
   <LI>This is menu item 1.
   <LI>This is menu item 2.
   </MENU>
   <OL>
   <LI>
   </OL>

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Internet Assistant for Word, version 2.0z. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use a text editor, such as Notepad, to create a nested menu list element inside an ordered list element.

NOTE: If you reopen the HTML document in Internet Assistant and then save it, your HTML markup will change.
