WD: DocErr: \Y Switch for Advance Field Help Topic Incorrect

ID: Q146897

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Word for Windows 95, version 7.0
  • Microsoft Word for Windows NT, version 6.0
  • Microsoft Word for the Macintosh, versions 6.0, 6.0.1, 6.0.1a
  • Microsoft Word 97 for Windows
  • Microsoft Word 98 Macintosh Edition

SYMPTOMS

In the products listed above, the help topic for the Advance field states that the \Y switch "moves the line of text that contains the field to the specified vertical position relative to the current [cursor] position." This is incorrect. The \Y switch moves the lines of text relative to the top margin of the page.

The information in Online Help for Word for Windows versions 6.0, 6.0a, and 6.0c is correct.

STATUS

We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

MORE INFORMATION

If you have both Word for Windows version 6.x and Word for Windows 95 installed on the same computer, when you open the help topic for the Advance field in Word 6.x, you see the incorrect help topic. This is because the help engine used by Windows 95 captures and reroutes requests to the Word 95 help file instead of the Word 6.x help file.
