WD95: Can't Set Workgroup Template Location on Banyan Vines

ID: Q153787

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Word for Windows 95, versions 7.0, 7.0a

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to set the Workgroup template location to a Banyan Vines network drive, the location does not appear in the File locations dialog box even though it is set correctly. When you click New on the File menu, you get the following error message:

Word cannot access your Workgroup templates

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, close Word. In the C:\Msoffice\Templates folder (directory), create a shortcut that points to the network drive and folder where the Workgroup templates are located. Verify that this shortcut actually opens the network folder that contains the templates. When you restart Word, and click New on the File menu, a new tab will be available that represents your shortcut. Select the tab to gain access to the Workgroup templates on the network.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Word versions 7.0 and 7.0a for Windows 95. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
