SYMPTOMS

When you break a WordArt object link, then edit the object in the Word Picture Editor, all closed characters fill in with a solid color.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Word versions listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Word 97 for Windows.

MORE INFORMATION

When you insert a WordArt object in Word for Windows versions 6.x or 7.x, unlink the object, then edit as a Word Picture, all closed characters fill in. In other words, the centers of closed letters ("O" and "D" for example) are filled with the text color.

To unlink an object:

  1. Select the object.

  2. Press the key combination CTRL+SHIFT+F9.

To edit in the Word Picture Editor:

Double click the object. This opens the object in the default Picture Editor.

Note: To set which picture editor Word uses, on the Tools menu, click Options. Click the Edit tab. Microsoft Word is listed as the Picture Editor.
