WD: Find/Replace <End Of Word> Malfunctions with Punctuation

SYMPTOMS
When you use Pattern Matching to find punctuation at the end of a word,
Word finds every instance of that punctuation.
WORKAROUNDMethod 1
Use this method to find the punctuation that exists at the end of a word or
number (for example, This is a test: or 19: ) and is followed by a space.
- On the Edit menu, click Find (Replace).
- Select the Pattern Matching check box.
- Click the No Formatting button, if available; otherwise, go to step 4.
- Click the Special button and choose End of Word >.
- In the Find What box, after the > type the punctuation you want to find
and press the spacebar. The Find What box should now look like as
follows:

- Click the Find Next button.
Method 2
Use this method to find punctuation that exists separating words or numbers
(for example, test:test or 19:91).
- On the Edit menu, click Find (Replace).
- Select the Pattern Matching check box.
- Click the No Formatting button, if available; otherwise, go to step 4.
- Click the Special button and choose End of Word >.
- In the Find What box, after the > type in the punctuation being searched
for. Then click the Special button again and select Beginning of Word
<. The Find What box should now look
as follows:

- Click the Find Next button.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the products listed at
the beginning of this article.

Word 7.x
- On the Help menu, click Microsoft Word Help Topics.
- Click the Find tab.
- In the "Type the word(s) you want to find", type Pattern
Matching.
- In the "Click a topic...", select "Find and replace text using
complex criteria", then click the Display button.
Word 6.x
- On the Help menu, click "Search for help on...".
- In the Search dialog box, type Pattern Matching and click the Show Topics button.
- In the "Select a topic...", select "Finding and replacing text by
using advanced search criteria".
