WV: Cannot Save File from Word Viewer

SYMPTOMS

If you open a Microsoft Word document (.doc) or Rich Text Format (.rtf) file in Microsoft Internet Explorer, Microsoft Word Viewer 97-2000 is started in-place from within Internet Explorer, allowing you to view the document. If you attempt to save the document from inside Word Viewer, it appears to save the file, although the file is not actually created.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem:

1. In Internet Explorer, click the Back button on the Standard toolbar to return to the previous Web page.



2. Right-click the document that you just returned from and click Save Target As on the shortcut menu.



3. Give the document a name and choose the location where you want to save the document.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
