This article describes how you can create a toolbar button to have Word display a header pane in a split screen while you are in normal view.

This method will only work in normal view and will only display the Header option. To create a toolbar button to have Word display a header pane while you are in normal view, follow these steps:

  1. On the Tools menu, click Customize. Select the Commands tab.


  2. Under Categories, select All Commands. Under Commands, select NormalViewHeaderArea, and then drag it to a toolbar.


  3. Click Close.


To see the Header pane, follow these steps:

  1. On the View menu, click Normal.


  2. Click the toolbar button for NormalViewHeaderArea.


The Header pane will appear at the bottom of the document. Clicking Close will close the Window pane.
