Error Installing Macros or Open Not Working with DOCS Open

SYMPTOMS
In Microsoft Word, you may encounter installation errors when you try to
install the supplemental macros from DOCS Open by PC DOCS.
For example, if you have DOCS Open 3.0, which isn't designed to work with
Microsoft Office 97, and use Wordin70.dot to install the supplemental
macros, you may encounter the following error:
Error due to installing macros in Microsoft Word 97 from the
Wordin70.dot file.
-or-
The Open command may stop responding.
NOTE: PC Docs is a document management system, which allows centralization
and management of shared documents in a network environment.
CAUSE
DOCS Open supplies supplemental macros in the following templates:
Wordint.dot - Word for Windows 2.0
Wordin60.dot - Word for Windows 6.x
Wordin70.dot - Word for Windows 95 version 7.0
The above templates install supporting macros that are compatible only with
the specified version of Microsoft Word. The templates are not compatible
with other versions.
WORKAROUNDError Message on Open
If you receive this error when you try to open a document, simply rename or
delete the following macros in the templates provided by DOCS Open:
FileOpen, InsertFile, and InsertPicture. To do this, follow these steps:
- Close all documents and templates in Microsoft Word.
- On the Tools menu, point to Macro, and then click Macros.
- Click Organizer, and then click the Macro Project Items tab.
- Under the "Macro Project Items available in" list, select the template
that you want to delete the macros from.
- Use the Rename or Delete buttons to rename or delete all of the
following macros:
FileOpen
InsertFile
InsertPicture
- Click Close to close the Organizer.
- On the File menu, click Save As to save the template. Make sure the Save
As Type is "Document Template (*.dot)."
Open Command Not Responding
DOCS Open integrates with Word 97 by placing entries in the Windows
registry. If DOCS Open interaction with Word malfunctions, the Open command
may stop responding. For additional information, please see the following

Word for Windows 7.0 under DOCS Open. If you have any questions, please

Point at one of the following options with the mouse, then
double-click:
Installation of DOCS Open places macros within the Normal.dot template on
the network, so that every user has access to DOCS Open.
If you already have any of the following macros in Normal.dot, the
supplemental macros will copy over your old macros with the same name.

Make sure you backup your Normal.dot template or copy the original macros
to a different template using the Organizer, before you install the
supplemental macros.
Uninstalling DOCS Open
If you later uninstall DOCS Open, you'll need to manually delete these
macros. To delete a macro from the Normal template in Microsoft Word,
follow these steps:
- On the Tools menu, point to Macro, and click Macros.
- In the "Macros in" list, select Normal.dot (Global Template).
- Click Organizer, and then click the Macro Project Items tab.
- In the "In Normal.dot" list select the macro you want to rename and
click Rename. Type the new name and click OK. Repeat this step for each
macro.
- Click Close to close the Organizer.
