SYMPTOMSIn Microsoft Word, if part or all of your document is formatted with no language reference, when you run either the spelling checker or the grammar checker, you receive either of the following messages. Word 7.x
Word 6.x and earlierThis error has also been reported to occur with documents imported to Word 2.x from either Ami Pro or WordPerfect. The resolution described in this article corrects this problem. Note that the document will not be hyphenated automatically if text is formatted with (no proofing). CAUSE
To use the spelling checker, you must specify a language. Word uses the
default language unless you specifically format part or all of your
document with no proofing. Word skips any text formatted in this way,
because it does not have a language to check against.
RESOLUTIONTo resolve this problem, follow these steps:
NOTE: For WordPerfect 6.0 documents, save the file in WordPerfect 5.1 format instead of Word 2.x format. When you open the WordPerfect 5.1 format file in Word for Windows, the error described in this article does not occur.
