MORE INFORMATION

To create a stamp substitute, use the appropriate procedure for your version of Word.

Word 6.0

  1. Open or create your envelope or postcard document.

  2. On the View menu, click Toolbars. Click to select the Drawing check box, and then click OK.

  3. On the Drawing toolbar, click the Text Box drawing icon.

Click OK if you receive the following message:
This action requires that you be in page layout view. Do you want to switch to page layout view now?

  4. In the upper-right area of the envelope or postcard, draw a text box to represent the stamp substitute.

If desired, while the text box is still selected, click to select (or change) a Line Style from the Drawing toolbar.

  5. Type the appropriate text into the stamp text box.

NOTE: You can adjust the position of the stamp box by selecting and dragging the text box to a new position on the envelope or postcard.

Word 5.0, 5.1

  1. From the Insert menu, choose Picture and choose the New Picture button.

  2. Create the stamp graphic in the picture window. For best results, drag the graphic to the upper-left corner of the picture window before you close the window. Close the Picture window to view the graphic in the document.

  3. Select the graphic.

  4. From the Format menu, choose Frame.

  5. Type in the horizontal and vertical dimensions to specify where you want the stamp substitute to appear on the page. Choose the Position button to ensure that it is where you want it. (When you are in print preview, if the object is not in the right place, you can drag it to the correct location.)

Word 4.0

  1. Type the stamp substitute text in your document.

  2. Select the stamp-substitute text.

  3. From the Format menu, choose Position.

  4. In the Horizontal and Vertical boxes, type the dimensions for where you want the stamp substitute to appear on the page. Choose the Preview button to see that is correctly located on the page. (If the text is not in the correct location, you select and drag it in print preview.) Choose the Cancel button to exit print preview.

  5. With the text still selected, choose Paragraph from the Format menu. Choose the Borders button to select a paragraph border if you want a border around the stamp-substitute.

Word 3.x

  1. Place the insertion point at the very beginning of the document and press the RETURN key.

  2. With the insertion point in the first line of the document, use the ruler to set the left indent at 7.25 inches and the right indent at 8.5 inches (or wider if your stamp substitute is wider than 1 inch).

  3. On the ruler, select the Centered option button.

  4. From the Format menu, choose Paragraph. In the Paragraph dialog box, under Border, select Box.

  5. Type the stamp-substitute text. To avoid hard line breaks (which will break up the border), press SHIFT+RETURN after all but the last line.

  6. If you want to have a return address printed on the envelope or card, enter the return address text and select both the stamp-substitute paragraph and the return address and select Side-By-Side under Paragraph on the Format menu.
