  • Microsoft Word for MS-DOS, versions 5.5, 6.0

SUMMARY

To change the default font for Microsoft Word, the NORMAL.STY style sheet must be modified. The normal paragraph style within NORMAL.STY contains the default formatting (including font selection) that is applied to new documents.

To modify the default paragraph style, do the following:

  1. From the Format menu, choose Define Styles.

  2. From the Insert menu, choose New Style.

  3. In the Style Type drop-down list box, select Paragraph.

  4. In the Style I.D. field, select Normal, and press ENTER.

Normal will now appear as a style with the name of the current default font setting (Courier 12).

To change the character formatting, choose Character from the Format menu. Select the desired font typeface and point size and press ENTER. The Normal style listing should update to indicate the new font selection.

Save the NORMAL.STY style sheet using the File Save command and then close the file using the File Close command.
