Copying and Pasting Cells Replaces Text in Table in WinWord

ID: Q73539

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Word for Windows, versions 1.0, 1.1, 1.1a, 2.0, 2.0a, 2.0a-CD, 2.0b, 2.0c, 6.0, 6.0a, 6.0c

SUMMARY

If a cell marker is included in a table selection when you copy the contents of a cell in Microsoft Word for Windows, the contents of the target cell are replaced if you use the Edit Paste command. If you copy and paste multiple cells into a cell, the copied cells replace the contents of the target cell and each cell corresponding to the copied selection.

To paste text into a cell without replacing the existing text, you must select only the text within a cell before copying to the Clipboard. You cannot select the whole cell. This requires that you copy and paste the contents of each cell individually.
