Bitmap Graphic Displays but Does Not Print
ID: Q74812
|
The information in this article applies to:
-
Microsoft Word for Windows, versions 1.0, 1.1, 1.1a, 2.0
SYMPTOMS
When a monochrome or color bitmap graphic is inserted into a Word for
Windows version 2.0 document, the image will likely appear on screen,
but may not always print, regardless of which Windows printer driver
is active. All other elements of the document print successfully, and
a blank frame is left where the graphic would normally have printed.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Word for Windows
version 2.0. This problem has been corrected in Word for Windows
version 2.0a. To obtain Word for Windows 2.0a, call Microsoft End
User Sales at (800) 426-9400.
WORKAROUND
The following are possible workarounds to address this problem:
- If you are having problems printing TIFF images from Word
for Windows 2.0 and you have PowerPoint installed and
have TIFF filter support, try the following:
- Rename the TIFFIMP.FLT to TIFFIMP.XXX in the following
directory:
c:\windows\msapps\grphflt directory.
- From the PowerPoint directory, copy the filter TIFFIMP.FLT
to the following directory:
c:\windows\msapps\grphflt directory.
- Load Word for Windows 2.0 and open the document.
- Reinsert the TIFF image in place of the original graphic
and try to print the document.
- If you are printing to a PostScript printer, and the program in
which you originally created the graphic also supports exporting
EPS format, do so, and insert the EPS file in place of the original
graphic. This should represent no disadvantage, because EPS
graphics create the best possible output on a PostScript device.
- If neither of the above options is available or solves the problem,
try the following:
- Select the graphic image.
- From the Edit menu, choose Cut.
- From the Edit menu, choose Paste Special.
- Specify Bitmap.
- Try printing the document again.
- If none of above options corrects the problem, try the following:
- Double-click on the image.
- After the Microsoft Draw editor appears, choose Exit and Return.
- Try printing the document again.
- If the program in which you created the graphic is a Windows
application and supports cutting or copying to the Windows
Clipboard, do so, and try pasting the image into Word for Windows
instead of using the Insert Picture Command.
- If you have access to the program in which you originally created
the image, try exporting the same image to a different format (WMF,
PCX, CGM, HPGL, and so on) and reinsert the new image in place of
the original graphic.
