WordArt: Incorrect Font Size in WordArt with Best Fit

ID: Q76658

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft WordArt, version 1.0

SYMPTOMS

When you create a two-line WordArt object with your point size set to Best Fit and your style set to Slant Up (More), you may notice that the font size selected as being the best fit is significantly smaller than the WordArt frame you have created.

RESOLUTION

Try changing the point size in the Size Box in WordArt to force a larger size or try different WordArt fonts. Resizing the WordArt frame may also allow larger text.

STATUS

Microsoft is researching this problem and will post new information here as it becomes available.

MORE INFORMATION

Steps to Reproduce Problem

  1. Create a WordArt frame that is 3 by 2 inches.

  2. Create a two-line text entry, such as:
    Your Text Here
    My Text There

  3. From the Font list, choose Tupelo.

  4. From the Style list, choose Slant Up (More).

  5. Choose the OK or Apply button.

You will notice that the text is noticeably smaller than the WordArt you drew. Choosing different fonts varies this result. Sequim, for example, will be larger, while Touchet will be smaller.

If you then select a specific point size yourself, you may find that the text does not seem to adopt the point size you have specified. For example, 39-point text may appear to be 30- to 50-percent larger than 39-point text should be.
