WD: Autosave Creates File with .ASD Extension

SUMMARY

When you use the Microsoft Word Automatic Recover option, Word creates a file with the extension .ASD. This file is the product of the Automatic Recover feature of Word for Windows and is created when the option is selected. To turn on this feature, follow these steps:

Word 97

  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.


  2. Click the Save tab.


  3. Click to select the Save AutoRecover Info Every check box and set the number of minutes between saves, and then click OK.

Word version 6.0/95

  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.


  2. Click the Save tab.


  3. Click to select the Automatic Save Every check box and set the number of minutes between saves, and then click OK.

Word version 2.x

  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.


  2. From the Category box, click Save.


  3. Check the Automatic Save Every option, and enter the number of minutes you want between automatic saves in the spin box.


You can use this file to recover a document that you have not given a name. To recover a file, follow these steps:

  1. On the File menu, click Open and find the location specified by the "AUTOSAVE-path=."


  2. Change the extension to *.ASD and click OK. This allows Word to open the document. The file is updated only as often as you specify the Automatic Save feature to do so.
