ID: Q77647

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Word for Windows, versions 2.0, 2.0a, 2.0a-CD, 2.0b, 2.0c, 6.0, 6.0a, 6.0c

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Word for Windows you can move a selection of text and or graphics by selecting the text or graphics and dragging your selection to a new location. A dotted vertical bar indicates where the text or graphics will be placed when you release the left mouse button. If you move the mouse cursor to the ruler on the screen before releasing the left mouse button, the dotted vertical bar disappears when bringing the mouse cursor directly down from the ruler.

Steps to Reproduce Problem

  1. Type some text into a Word for Windows version 2.0 document.

  2. Select a portion of text.

  3. Click the left mouse button on the selected text and hold down the mouse button.

  4. Drag the text up on the screen. Notice the broken vertical indicator that moves with the mouse cursor.

  5. Continue dragging the selection up into the ruler and slowly back down into the document.

Note: As the mouse cursor comes down from the ruler area, the broken vertical bar disappears when it should display in the first line of the document. This broken vertical bar appears again as soon as you move the mouse cursor down to the next line or left or right in the first line. This behavior only occurs after you move the mouse cursor into the ruler area.
