ID: Q78556

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Word for Windows, versions 2.0, 2.0a, 2.0a-CD, 2.0b, 2.0c, 6.0, 6.0a, 6.0c

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Word for Windows cannot double-click and drag to select multiple words in a dialog box.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft Word for Windows listed above. We are researching this problem, and will post more information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

MORE INFORMATION

In a dialog box, if you select a word by double-clicking it and then you drag the insertion point across other words, Word does not select the other words. You can use this method to select text in a document.

Steps to Reproduce Problem

  1. From the File menu, choose New, and choose the OK button.

  2. From the File menu, select Summary Info.

  3. Type in several words in one of the dialog box fields.

  4. Position the insertion point over the first word.

  5. Double-click and drag across the other words in the field.

Word only selects the first word with the double-click; no other words are selected. A single click and drag works correctly in a dialog box.
