ID: Q80556

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Word for MS-DOS, versions 4.0, 5.0, 5.5, 6.0

SUMMARY

You can export a document or parts of a document from Aldus PageMaker version 4.0 and open the file in Microsoft Word for MS-DOS versions 4.0, 5.0, or 5.5 by using the file export filters provided by Aldus.

MORE INFORMATION

To export a document from PageMaker and open it in Word, use the following steps:

  1. In the PageMaker document, place your cursor in the story you want to export, or open a story from the Story Editor. You can also select (highlight) a portion of text and follow the same procedure.

  2. From the File menu, choose Export (ALT+F, E).

  3. Select Microsoft Word as the exported document's file format. If option is not available, you must install the appropriate export filter through the PageMaker installation program. For more information, see your "Aldus PageMaker 4.0 Getting Started" manual.

  4. Name the file as it is to be called when you open it from within Microsoft Word, for example, FILENAME.DOC.

  5. Select to export the entire story or selected text only. If no text is selected, the entire story is sent by default. If text is highlighted, the selected text is the default.

  6. Press ENTER or choose the OK button.

The file can now be opened in Word as you would normally open a document.

Aldus also provides a rich-text format (RTF) export filter for use with PageMaker. If you want to export a file to Word in this format, choose RTF as the file format in step 3, and follow all other steps.
