SUMMARYIf you rename a macro in Microsoft Word for Windows versions 1.x or 2.x, any custom key combination, menu assignment, or tool bar assignment for the macro is lost. In version 6.0, key combinations and menu assignments update when the macro name is changed, but toolbar assignments do not update automatically. These items must be manually reassigned to the new macro name. MORE INFORMATION
When you assign a macro to a key combination, menu, or tool bar
button, Word for Windows assigns the actual name of the macro to that
item. If you rename a macro, the key combination, menu, and tool bar
assignments may not update to reflect the new name.
If a macro is assigned to a tool and the name of the macro is changed in the Macro Organizer, Word will not find the macro associated with the tool. Keyboard assignments and menu definitions pointing at the same macro will continue to work. In Word for Windows version 2.0, menu items assigned to nonexistent macro names are unavailable. If you choose the tool bar button, nothing happens. If you press the key combination, Word beeps, but no macro is initiated. In Word for Windows version 1.x, menu items assigned to nonexistent macro names remain available; however, no action occurs if you choose the menu item. If you press the key combination, Word beeps, but no macro is initiated. If you rename the macro with its original name, its key combination, menu assignment, or tool bar assignment is restored, with one exception. In Word for Windows version 2.0, if you choose Options from the Tools menu and select the Menu category, Word removes all menu items with unknown macro names when you choose the Close button. Renaming the macro to the original name does not restore the menu assignment in this case. REFERENCES
