Summary Information Command Unavailable in Packaged Document

SYMPTOMS

If you create a package that includes a selection from a Microsoft Word for Windows document using Microsoft Windows Object Packager, the File Summary Info command is unavailable when you activate the package. If your package includes an entire Word document, rather than a portion of a document, the File Summary Info command is available.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft Word for Windows listed above. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

Steps to Reproduce Problem

  1. In a Word for Windows document, select some text.


  2. From the Edit menu, choose Copy.


  3. Open Windows Object Packager.


  4. From the Edit menu, choose Paste.


  5. From the Edit menu, choose Copy Package.


  6. Open Microsoft Windows Write. From the Edit menu, choose Paste Special. Under Data Type, select Package Object, then choose the Paste button. A Word for Windows icon should appear in your Windows Write file.


  7. Double-click the Word for Windows package icon. This should launch Word and open the packaged document.


  8. Open the Word for Windows File menu.


The Summary Info command is unavailable.
