File Management Can Delete Password-Protected Files

ID: Q93481

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Word for MS-DOS, version 6.0

SUMMARY

You can delete, copy, or rename Word for MS-DOS files that are encrypted with a password using the File Management command without knowing the password for the file.

MORE INFORMATION

The password protection feature in Word prevents others from viewing or making changes to your document. It is not designed to prevent you from performing such MS-DOS actions as deleting, copying, or renaming the file. The Word File Management command uses MS-DOS commands to perform Copy, Delete, and Rename operations, so password encryption of a document does not alter its treatment by File Management for these actions.
