Err Msg: "No Language Selected" Choosing Main Dictionary

ID: Q94549

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Word for MS-DOS, version 6.0

SUMMARY

When you type the filename of a spelling dictionary in the Language box of the Main Dictionary dialog box, Word for MS-DOS displays the following error message if the corresponding language name does not appear in the Language list:

No language has been selected.
You must choose a language name or dictionary filename that appears in the Language list or switch to the directory where the dictionary file resides.

For example, if you type SPELL-AM.LEX in the Language box when "English US" does not appear in the Language list, the above error message occurs. You must select the location of the SPELL- AM.LEX file from the Directories list, then you can type SPELL-AM.LEX in the Language box or select English US in the Language list.

MORE INFORMATION

Use the following instructions to open the Main Dictionary dialog box:

  1. From the Tools menu, choose Customize.

  2. Choose the Spell button and then choose the Main Dictionary button.

When Word recognizes a dictionary file, it displays the language name in the Language list. For example, when Word encounters the SPELL-FR.LEX file, it lists French in the Language list. If Word does not recognize the language for a dictionary file, it lists the filename in the Language list.
