SYMPTOMSIf you print an envelope from Microsoft Word for Windows to a NEC SilentWriter 95 using the Create Envelope command, the address text may be truncated, the envelope may print in the wrong orientation, or you may receive a general protection (GP) fault. STATUSNEC has confirmed this to be a problem with the NEC SilentWriter 95 printer driver for the Microsoft Windows operating system version 3.1. There is a new version of the driver available from NEC, N95f311.WPD dated 10/7/92, which corrects the problem. This problem was corrected in Word version 7.0 for Windows 95. MORE INFORMATION
When you print envelopes using the Create Envelope command in Word for
Windows, the NEC SilentWriter 95 printer driver does not correctly
rotate the printable region to landscape orientation. Consequently,
printing begins .5 inch from the left edge of the envelope and ends
4.5 inches from the left edge of the envelope.
Microsoft tested the following two versions of the NEC SilentWriter 95 printer driver:
Both versions exhibited the behavior described above.
If you are using the .WPD file dated 12-08-91, the envelope will be printed in landscape orientation; however, the right side of the text will be truncated near the middle of the envelope. If you are using the .WPD file dated 02-10-92, the envelope will be printed in portrait orientation; a manual feed prompt is not displayed on the printer when you use this printer driver.
