Equation Editor Object Limited to 6 Inches

The information in this article applies to:

STATUS

Equation Editor objects inserted into Microsoft Word for Windows are limited to 6 inches in width. As more data is entered into the equation, Word will scale the object to 6 inches, regardless of the margin settings in Word.

Equation Editor objects inserted into Microsoft Windows Write will not be scaled, because Write does not have a scaling capability.

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft Word for Windows listed above. This problem was corrected in version 6.0 of Word for Windows.


WORKAROUND

  1. Select the equation.


  2. Click and drag the handle in the bottom right corner of the object to extend the equation to the desired length/size.
    -or-
    From the Format menu, choose Picture. Select the Reset button to set scaling to 100 percent.


Note: If the equation is updated, the object's scaling will revert to 6 inches.
