Unable to Undo a Drag-and-Drop Editing Action

ID: Q96429

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Word for MS-DOS, version 6.0

SUMMARY

You cannot undo drag-and-drop or drag-and-copy editing actions in a document that contains a bookmark. After you drag-and-drop or drag-and-copy text in a document that contains a bookmark, the Undo option in the Edit menu becomes unavailable, and the status bar at the bottom of the screen displays the message "there is no edit to undo."

If you delete all bookmarks in the document, you will be able to undo drag-and-drop and drag-and-copy editing actions. For instructions on deleting bookmarks, see page 265 of "Using Microsoft Word."

If you still can't undo a drag-and-drop editing action after you have removed all bookmarks from your document, the document was probably created in Word 5.5 or 5.0 and once contained a bookmark. Saving the document as an RTF file will allow you to undo drag-and-drop editing actions.

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Word version 6.0 for MS-DOS. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
