Embedded Project Object Displays Incorrectly After Update

ID: Q97666

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Word for Windows, versions 2.0, 2.0a, 2.0a-CD, 2.0b, 2.0c, 6.0, 6.0a, 6.0c
  • Microsoft Project for Windows, version 3.0

SYMPTOMS

Sometimes an embedded Microsoft Project object becomes truncated after you edit it in Microsoft Project and update it in your Word for Windows document.

This happens if you embed a Microsoft Project object in your Word for Windows document and scale it to a smaller size (or if Word automatically scales the object to fit within your document margins). After you edit the Microsoft Project object and update the object in your Word document, the display portion of the object is truncated, and the original size of the object is lost.

This happens regardless of whether you use the \s and \*MERGEFORMAT switches in the EMBED field.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft Word for Windows listed above. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

MORE INFORMATION

Microsoft Project objects are larger than standard letter page dimensions (approximately 8.29 inches), so Word usually scales the object.

This problem does not occur when you embed, scale, edit, and then update an oversized Excel Worksheet object. Word continues to display the Excel Worksheet object correctly after you update the object.

WORKAROUND

Adjust the page setup settings so Word does not scale the object. For example, change the orientation to landscape for standard letter size paper.
