WD97: Dot or Dash Border Lost Opening Word 6.x, 7.x Document

SYMPTOMS

When you open a Microsoft Word 6.x or 7.x document in Word 97, dot or dash borders on inline (non-floating) objects are lost.

NOTE: This problem does not occur with borders on floating objects.

Inline objects include paragraphs, tables, frames, and inline pictures.

Floating objects include drawing objects and text boxes.


RESOLUTION

A supported fix that corrects this problem is now available from Microsoft, but it has not been fully regression tested and should be applied only to systems experiencing this specific problem.

WORKAROUND

After opening the document in Word 97, reapply the dot or dash border. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Select the text or table you want to apply the dot or dash border to.


  2. On the Format menu, click Borders and Shading.


  3. On the Borders tab, under Setting, click to select the type of border you want. Under Style, click to select either the dot or dash style, and then click OK.



STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
