WD97: Unable to Edit Earlier Versions of Wordart Objects

SYMPTOMS
When you try to edit a WordArt object, you may receive the following error
message:
Word cannot edit the Microsoft WordArt 2.0.
-or-
Word cannot edit the object.
CAUSE
The WordArt object was created in an earlier version of WordArt.
WORKAROUND
To work around this behavior, use one of the following methods.
Method 1
Remove and re-create the WordArt object. To do so, follow these steps:
- Delete the existing WordArt object.
- On the Drawing toolbar, click the Insert WordArt button, select a new
object, and then click OK.
Method 2
Install the earlier version of WordArt. To do so, follow these steps:
- Start the Setup program for one of the following programs:
- Microsoft Works for Windows version 3.0
- Microsoft Word for Windows versions 6.0, 6.0a, 6.0c
- Microsoft Publisher version 2.0
- Microsoft PowerPoint version 4.0
- Microsoft Office versions 4.0, 4.2, 4.3
- Click Custom Installation.
- Click to clear the check marks from all check boxes except the WordArt
check box.
- Complete the installation. You should now be able to edit the WordArt
object.
