When you open a Word file by double-clicking it in Windows Explorer or in a desktop shortcut, the following error message may appear:
This does not occur if you open the file in Word by using the Open command on the File menu or the Open button on the Standard toolbar. CAUSE
The registry information for Microsoft Word Document is incorrect. RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, try any of the following methods: Method 1: Remove the Microsoft Word Document file type.
When you restart Word, the application will be re-registered. NOTE: You may need to restart Windows to update your icons. Method 2: Edit the registry to remove the "%1" parameter.WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved.
