WD97: Page Size Changes When You Edit Document Object Embedded in PPT Slide

SYMPTOMS

In PowerPoint 97, when you edit an embedded Word object that contains a table or drawing object and then move the Word object, the Word page size shrinks or grows each time you move the object.


WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, reset the page size by using the Word Page Setup dialog box.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.

Steps to Reproduce the Problem

  1. Start Word and open a new blank document.


  2. Create a table (2 rows x 4 columns, for example).


  3. On the Edit menu, click Select All.


  4. On the Edit menu, click Copy.


  5. Start PowerPoint and open a new blank presentation.


  6. In PowerPoint, on the Edit menu, click Paste to embed the Word table into a slide.


  7. Right-click the Word object, and then click Edit Document Object.


  8. Move the embedded object by dragging it by the top border, not by dragging the handle. Then check the page size.

    Result: Each time you move the object, the page size shrinks.
    Expect: The page size does not change.


  9. Move the object several times, and note that the page size changes.


  10. Enlarge the embedded object by dragging the lower right corner down and out.


  11. Move the embedded object by dragging the top border.

    Result: Each time you move the object, the page size increases.
    Expect: The page size does not change.
