XL2000: Hyperlink Colors Don't Show Expected Color Format

ID: Q202355

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Excel 2000

SYMPTOMS

Hyperlinks in your workbook, whether followed or unfollowed, may be formatted with an unexpected color and underline.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when you do the following:

  • You select a cell that contains a hyperlink.

    -and-

  • You delete either the Hyperlink or Followed Hyperlink style.

RESOLUTION

If you delete the Hyperlink or Followed Hyperlink style, you can reapply the style to reformat the cell. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Insert a new hyperlink into your worksheet. Click the hyperlink.

This step is necessary because it adds back the deleted Hyperlinks and Followed Hyperlinks styles.

  2. Select the cell(s) that contain hyperlinks.

  3. On the Format menu, click Style.

  4. In the Style name list, click Hyperlink and click OK to apply the hyperlink style to the selected cells.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

The Hyperlink style controls the appearance of hyperlinks that have not been clicked. The Followed Hyperlink style controls the appearance of hyperlinks that have been clicked. To change the appearance of hyperlinks, follow these steps:

  1. On the Format menu, click Style.

  2. In the Style name list, click Hyperlink or Followed Hyperlink, and then click Modify.

Anytime you select one or more cells and click OK in the Style dialog box, Excel applies the style that appears in the Style name list to the selected cells. When a style has been applied to a selected cell, and you delete that style, Excel applies the Normal style to that cell.
