XL2000: UserForm Is Lost When Saving in Earlier Version Format

SYMPTOMS

If you save a workbook in the file format for an earlier version of Microsoft Excel, any UserForms in the file are not saved.

Note that when you save your workbook in an earlier version's format, you receive the following message

file name may contain features that are not compatible with Microsoft Excel 5.0/95 Workbook. Do you want to save the workbook in this format?
where file name is the name of your workbook.


CAUSE

This problem may occur if all of the following conditions are true:

  • You add a UserForm to your Microsoft Excel workbook.

    -and-


  • You save the file in a file format for an earlier version of Microsoft Excel.



RESOLUTION

To save your file in a file format for an earlier version such as Microsoft Excel 5.0 or Microsoft Excel 95, do not choose the Microsoft Excel 5.0/95 file format. Instead, choose the following file format:

Microsoft Excel 97/2000 & 5.0/95 Workbook

A UserForm is a feature in Microsoft Excel that is not supported by versions of Microsoft Excel earlier than Microsoft Excel 97. These earlier versions use a Dialog Sheet instead of a UserForm.
