XL2000: Cannot Drag UserForm Control onto a Worksheet

ID: Q211527

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Excel 2000

SYMPTOMS

When you drag a control from a UserForm onto a Microsoft Excel worksheet, the pointer turns into a "No" pointer (a circle with a diagonal line through it), and you cannot drop the control onto the worksheet. Also, if you cut or copy a control from a UserForm, you cannot paste the control into a worksheet.

CAUSE

Microsoft Excel does not support moving or copying a control from a UserForm to a worksheet.

RESOLUTION

If you want to place a UserForm control on a worksheet, insert a new control from the Control Toolbox toolbar. To insert a control on a worksheet, follow these steps:

  1. On the View menu, point to Toolbars and click Control Toolbox.

  2. Click the control you want and then draw the control on your worksheet.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

You can add ActiveX controls to your worksheets for making custom applications. The ActiveX controls that you can add to your worksheet are on the Control Toolbox toolbar. To display the Control Toolbox toolbar, point to Toolbars on the View menu, and then click Control Toolbox.

Many of the ActiveX controls are similar in form and function to the controls on the Forms toolbar, but the ActiveX Controls are available for both UserForms (in Visual Basic Editor) and worksheets. The Forms toolbar controls are only available for worksheets.

REFERENCES

For more information about ActiveX controls, click Microsoft Excel Help on the Help menu, type "ActiveX controls" in the Office Assistant or the Answer Wizard, and then click Search to view the topics returned.
