XL2000: Status Bar Text Is Bold When Using Large Fonts Display Setting

SYMPTOMS

When you are working in Microsoft Excel, the text displayed in the status bar appears to be bold.

CAUSE

Text in the status bar appears bold if the Font Size setting (under the Display icon in Control Panel) is Large Fonts.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use either of the following methods.

NOTE: Because there are several versions of Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, please consult your product documentation to complete these steps.

Method 1: Change the Font Size to Small Fonts

1. Click Start, point to Settings, and click Control Panel.



2. Double-click the Display icon.



3. Click the Settings tab.



4. In the Font Size list, click Small Fonts.
   
   NOTE: If you don't see the Font Size list on the Settings tab, click Advanced, and then click the General tab. In the Font Size list, click Small Fonts. Click OK.



5. Click OK.



6. If you are prompted to restart your computer, click Yes.

Method 2: Use a Custom Font Size

1. Click Start, point to Settings, and click Control Panel.



2. Double-click the Display icon.



3. Click the Settings tab.
   
   Do either of the following:
   
   
   • Click Custom.
     
     -or-
   
   
   
   • Click Advanced. Click the General tab. In the Font Size list, click Other.
   
   
   
   The Custom Font Size dialog box appears.



4. Use the ruler to drag the font size to less than 117%. Click OK twice.



5. If you are prompted to restart the computer, click Yes.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
