SYMPTOMS
When you click No to decline saving a workbook in an alternate file format, Microsoft Excel saves the workbook in the alternate format regardless.
CAUSE
This problem occurs when you do the following:
- You publish a selected range of cells as a Web page from a workbook.
- You then attempt to save the workbook, using the Microsoft Excel
5.0/95 Workbook file format in the Save As dialog box.
- When you receive the message
"<filename>" may contain features that are not compatible with
<file format>. Do you want to keep the workbook in this format?
you click No and decline saving the workbook.
Although nothing appears to happen, Excel saves a workbook in the Excel 5.0/95 file format, with the same name as your workbook.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed
at the beginning of this article.
