SYMPTOMSIf you open a workbook created in an earlier version of Microsoft Excel that contains a chart made from a PivotTable, you cannot change that chart to a PivotChart. CAUSECharts made in earlier versions of Excel from PivotTable data are maintained as regular charts, rather than being converted to PivotCharts. WORKAROUND
The fastest and most reliable way to work around this problem is to create a new PivotChart from the PivotTable report. MORE INFORMATION
A chart that is not created from PivotTable data will be converted to a PivotChart if you change the data source to a PivotTable. After linking a PivotChart to PivotTable data, you can no longer change the data source.
