XL2000: #VALUE! in Spreadsheet Published from Excel When Transition Formula Evaluation Is Enabled

SYMPTOMS
When you open a Web page in your browser that contains a Microsoft
Office Spreadsheet, some formulas may display the #VALUE! error.
CAUSE
This problem may occur when the following conditions are true:
- The spreadsheet was published from data on a Microsoft Excel worksheet.
-and-
- The Transition formula evaluation check box (on
the Transition tab of the Options dialog box in Excel) was
selected when you published the spreadsheet.
RESOLUTION
To resolve the problem, Follow these steps:
- Open the Excel workbook that was used to publish the spreadsheet.
- On the Tools menu, click Options.
- On the Transition tab, click to clear the
Transition formula evaluation check box, and then
click OK.
Some formulas will return the Transition formula evaluation error. See the "More Information" section later in this article for more information about how the Transition formula evaluation check box affects the calculation of your formulas.
- On the File menu, click Save as Web Page.
- Click Republish: Sheet, and then click Save.

The Transition formula evaluation option allows Excel to evaluate formulas in a manner consistent with Lotus 1-2-3. This option is enabled automatically when you open a file that was created in Lotus 1-2-3.
When the Transition formula evaluation check box is
selected, Excel evaluates text strings as 0, converts Boolean expressions to 0 or 1, and converts database criteria according to the rules used in Lotus 1-2-3.
