XL2000: Error Publishing Chart with Data from Multiple Sheets

ID: Q221489

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Excel 2000
  • Microsoft Office Chart Component 9.0, run time

SYMPTOMS

When you publish a Microsoft Excel chart to an interactive Web page, you receive the following error message:

Excel cannot publish the chart because the source data is on multiple sheets.
And the chart is not published.

CAUSE

The Microsoft Office Chart Component relies on the Microsoft Office Spreadsheet Component to store the source data for the chart. Because the Spreadsheet Component does not support multiple worksheets, the Chart Component cannot utilize data that is stored on more than one Excel worksheet.

WORKAROUND

If you want to publish a chart that contains data originating from more than one worksheet, you must ensure that all of the data for the chart is on one worksheet. You can do this by copying or linking information from multiple worksheets to one worksheet. If you are working with an existing chart, you must then update the references to the data series on the chart to reflect the new location of the data.

MORE INFORMATION

For more information about changing the data series in charts, click Microsoft Excel Help on the Help menu, type "Add data to a chart" in the Office Assistant or the Answer Wizard, and then click Search to view the topics returned.
