XL2000: Blank Space Appears Around Objects in Web Page Saved in Excel

The information in this article applies to:
SYMPTOMS
When you open a Web page that you have saved in Microsoft Excel, blank space appears around objects on the page.
CAUSE
This problem occurs when the following conditions are true:
- Your Excel worksheet contains one or more of the following objects:
- Charts
- Office Art
- Clip Art Objects
- Pictures
- Text Boxes
- WordArt
- Any object inserted from the Object dialog box.
-and-
- One or more of the objects are positioned over cells that contain non-default formatting or data.
-and-
- You save your Excel workbook in the HTML file format.
-and-
- You open the HTML file in one of the following Web browsers:
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0x
- Netscape Navigator 3.0x
WORKAROUND
To work around the problem, follow these steps:
- Open the file in Excel.
- Position any objects on the worksheet so that they do not overlap cells that contain data.
- Save the file.
The next time that you open the file in your Web browser, the page will be displayed correctly.
