SBFM2000: Cannot Open Financial Manager Data File Created in Previous Version of SBFM

ID: Q234077

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Small Business Financial Manager, used with:
    • Microsoft Office 2000 Small Business Tools
  • Microsoft Excel 2000

SYMPTOMS

When you try to open a Financial Manager Data (.mdb) file in the Create a Financial Report dialog box, you may receive the following error message:

This version of the database cannot be used. Please re-import the data so your data is in the new format.

CAUSE

This error message occurs when you try to open a Financial Manager Data file that was created in an earlier version of the Microsoft Small Business Financial Manager (SBFM). You cannot use a Financial Manager Data file that was created in an earlier version.

WORKAROUND

You must create a new .mdb file by re-importing the accounting files from your accounting software into the current version of the Small Business Financial Manager. To do this, click Import Wizard on the Financial Manager menu.

MORE INFORMATION

When you import accounting data into the Small Business Financial Manager, the SBFM creates a Financial Manager data file, which uses the Microsoft Access (.mdb) file format. You cannot use an .mdb file created in an earlier version of the SBFM, because the .mdb file format is different in the current version.
