ID: Q234129

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Small Business Financial Manager, included with:
    • Microsoft Office 2000 Small Business Tools
  • Microsoft Excel 2000

SYMPTOMS

When you try to map accounts to different categories using the Remap Data command in the Microsoft Small Business Financial Manager (SBFM), an error message similar to the following appears:

Unable to open "C:\Windows\All Users\Application Data\SBT\Databases\company name".
Where company name is the name of your QuickBooks accounting company file.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when you do the following:

  • You import data into the SBFM from Inuit QuickBooks for Windows.

    -and-

  • Your company name in QuickBooks ends with a period character (.).

    -and-

  • You click Remap Data on the Financial Manager menu and then try to map accounts to different categories.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, after you import your QuickBooks accounting data, rename the accounting file that the SBFM creates so that it does not include the period character. By default, your accounting data file, a Microsoft Access .mdb file, is located in the following folder:

C:\Windows\All Users\Application Data\SBT\Databases
Use Windows Explorer to rename your accounting file to exclude the ending period character. For example, if your file is named "My Company, Inc..mdb" change the name to "My Company, Inc.mdb" (without the quotation marks).

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
