ID: Q234130

  • Microsoft Small Business Financial Manager, included with:
    • Microsoft Office 2000 Small Business Tools
  • Microsoft Excel 2000

SYMPTOMS

When you try to import your accounting data into the Microsoft Small Business Financial Manager, the following error message appears:

Unable to create the database tables.

Import cannot complete. Click OK to go back to the last step of the New Database Wizard.

CAUSE

This error message occurs when you enter a password in the New Database Wizard dialog box or the Database Login dialog box and your password is any of the following:

   Password Comment
   -------- --------------------------------

   'password Leading apostrophe character
   "password Leading quotation mark character
   =password Leading equal sign character

WORKAROUND

If you enter a password, the password should not include any of the characters listed in the "Cause" section, or at least should not begin with these characters.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

The Microsoft Small Business Financial Manager allows password level security for your accounting data. When you run the New Database Wizard, you create a user name and an optional password. To access information from this database, a user must enter a valid user name and password. This protects your data so that the only people who can access it are those you want to do so.
